Two BME Students Receive Sigma Xi Honorable Mention Awards

Two BME graduate students, Joseph Kinsella and Alaina Pizzo, received Honorable Mention Awards at the 2005 Graduate Student Poster Competition held on campus on February 18th. Both posters were entered in the Engineering Sciences division of the competition.

Joe Kinsella's poster, entitled "Enzymatic Digestion of DNA Wires Coated with Magnetic Nanoparticles," showcased recent research results obtained with his advisor, Professor Albena Ivanisevic. Alaina Pizzo's poster, done in collaboration with her advisors, Professors Klod Kokini and Sherry Voytik-Harbin described "The Dependence of Three-Dimensional Cell-Matrix Biomechanics on Extracellular Matrix Micro-Structural Composition."

The Purdue chapter of Sigma Xi was established in 1909 with a mission to foster and recognize outstanding research on the Purdue campus. There are currently over 400 active members who sponsor activities at all levels from high school through post-graduate and faculty.
