Dr. Leslie A. Geddes Receives Outstanding Contribution to Science Commercialization Award

At a luncheon ceremony held on April 28th in Indianapolis, Dr. Leslie A. Geddes was presented with the first annual Outstanding Contribution to Scientific Commercialization Award at the Indiana Health Industry Forum's 2005 Indiana Health Innovention.

Innovention 2005 is the fourth-annual Indiana Health Industry Forum Conference and Innovation Showcase – a summit for Indiana's health & life sciences community.

This forum encourages networking among key industry trendsetters – established executives, emerging entrepreneurs, leading investors and university and government officials from Indiana. It covers the latest health industry trends and explores how Indiana's health industry cluster is working in the marketplace.

Wade Lange, President of IHIF, says "we have always believed that, given the great base of intellectual assets in Indiana companies and universities, the commercialization of novel ideas from our science base is absolutely crucial and a real oportunity for growth in Indiana's health industry. Look no furthr than our leadership of the 21st Century Research and Technology Fund to see that belief in practice. While there are awards for great science and for entrepreneurship, there is a need to recognize and applaud those Hoosiers who have done the most to convert great ideas to great products and services."

Dr. Geddes was honored for his lifetime of successes, including 27 issued United States patents on which he is an inventor, as well as in excess of 200 corresponding foreign patents. He has also published over 700 scholarly articles and 20 books. Indiana biotech leaders such as Cook Biotech, DePuy, and Eli Lilly have all licensed and commercialized his technologies. However, when asked to identify how he has accomplished so much, Dr. Geddes simply replies: "I identified needs that had not been fulfilled. Then I filled them."
