MSE Professor Joins $19M NSF Initiative to Advance AI-Driven Materials Discovery
Purdue University has secured $19 million from the National Science Foundation to develop a groundbreaking AI-driven programmable cloud laboratory that will accelerate the discovery and deployment of next-generation materials.
Led by Alejandro Strachan, Reilly Professor of Materials Engineering, the Intelligent Codesign Cloud Lab for Non-Equilibrium and Low-Dimensional Materials (ICoN-PCL) will connect researchers across the country to advanced experimental facilities, simulations, digital twins and AI-powered tools.
The platform aims to transform how materials are discovered, designed and manufactured for critical applications in:

By integrating physical laboratories, autonomous experimentation and artificial intelligence, ICoN-PCL will help shorten the path from scientific breakthrough to real-world technology.
