Purdue MSE was selected for three awards in the Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy FY 2023 Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research competition. The projects range from understanding chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking in steel to concurrent irradiation+corrosion to qualify advanced steels for future lead-cooled fast nuclear reactors, and funding to purchase a hot isostatic press (HIP), which will significantly expand MSE's capabilities in nuclear manufacturing research. The projects are led by MSE Professor, Janelle Wharry, and include partnerships with MSE professor, Maria Okuniewski, and Nuclear Engineering professors, Ahmed Hassanein, Xiaoyuan Lou, and Yi Xie, along with collaborators from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratories.
