Congratulations to PhD Candidate, Surya Mitra, who has completed his PhD under the advisement of Professor R. Edwin Garcia. Surya’s research focused on physics-based modeling of degradation in lithium-ion batteries. In his work, physically accurate descriptions were developed for degradation mechanisms that occur microscopically within lithium-ion batteries. Battery design and operational strategies were identified to improve the overall macroscopic performance, such as battery charge-discharge cycling life.
