Congratulations to Dr. Tongjun Niu who has successfully completed her PhD under the advisement of Professor Xinghang Zhang! Her research focused on designing and developing novel nanocrystalline composite materials with enhanced thermal stability, mechanical strength and radiation tolerance for advanced nuclear reactors. She fabricated Cu-Ag-Fe triphase nanocomposites with two distinctive architectures including nanolaminate and nanocrystalline by magnetron sputtering. The triple junctions and phase boundaries form 3D interlocking network which significantly increase the thermal and radiation stability. Dr. Niu has accepted a postdoc position with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
