Kevin Boes - Student stories of COVID 19/Study Abroad
Reflecting on the past two months, it is amazing how fast time has gone by for me. As my roommate and I watched everything unfold in mid March, we were just astounded. It was one thing after another. China, March Madness cancelled, schools cancelled, and then the stay at home order.
For two months now I've been working from home as I am a co-op student currently on rotation. All in all, I am extremely thankful to be where I am right now. I took one class which was online to start so not much has changed for my academic experience. However, the company I work for had to cut many interns, including my roommate. For the last month, I have been in complete isolation, with the exception of seeing my brother every once in a while.
Frankly, I feel the best I have in my life, physically and mentally. Isolation has given me an opportunity to focus on the little things in life. I started improved my nutrition, fitness, sleep, and overall lifestyle by forming small habits over my time in isolation. It's weird to think that I can go a whole day without saying a word to anyone and be okay with that. However, I do catch up over the phone with friends and family
I am ready to return to the social life. I am seeing a friend this weekend and I head home in a week to see family and friends.
Overall, I feel that isolation allowed me to take a step back in life and prime myself to be the best me. I feel comfortable about my future even though I have 0 clue what it will look like.
