Purdue University’s Office of Global Engineering Programs and Partnerships (GEPP) serves all students, staff, and faculty in the College by offering comprehensive academic programs in education, research, and engagement, with an emphasis on transformative education and effective solutions to global engineering challenges. GEPP currently has two major initiatives:
Innovation for International Development Lab (I2D Lab)
The I2D Lab translates Purdue’s engineering innovations to sustainable global development impact for thousands of people across the world and in low and middle-income countries. It connects faculty, staff, and students to key stakeholders and potential donors in international development and to seed funding for designing and testing innovative yet appropriate solutions for communities. It provides a fertile ground for interdisciplinary student and faculty teams to work on solving roadblock global challenges.
I2D Lab’s mission is to use engineering innovation and market-based approaches as a change agent in global efforts to:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Ensure healthy lives and quality education
- Ensure access to water and sanitation
- Build resilient infrastructure
- Ensure access to affordable and sustainable energy
- Promote sustainable industrialization
I2D Lab’s faculty and students will collaborate with international, community-based partners, and entrepreneurs throughout the world, to co-develop appropriate engineering innovations and deliver them at scale using viable business models to have real, sustained impact in communities around the world.
Your support is essential for I2D Lab’s mission success. Together, we will translate Purdue engineering innovations to scalable solutions for eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, improving global health, building resilient societies, and empowering vulnerable populations.
Global Engineering Competency Initiative
This initiative will develop and implement a College-wide plan to achieve global competency among 100% of Purdue engineering students. Through immersive and transformative study, research, and work opportunities, both on-campus and abroad, graduates will develop their abilities to work effectively with colleagues across national, cultural, and ethnic boundaries.
The plan will also develop innovative programs for improving intercultural communication and rigorously assess students’ gains in global competency. Through incentives, scholarships, and special programs, your support will help increase the number of engineering students who participate in learning experiences abroad from 20% to more than 33% of the graduating class by 2020.
