A new research field called transformation optics that may usher in a host of radical advances including a cloak of invisibility and ultra-powerful microscopes and computers will be described in an article to be published in the journal Science. The article was written by Vladimir Shalaev, Purdue's Robert and Anne Burnett Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

William Chappell, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is on a team that will study treatments for glaucoma and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, with support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

The IEEE Board of Directors, at its meeting on November 12, 2008, elevated Professor David Ebert to IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2009 with the citation for contributions to data visualization and its applications. The IEEE Board of Directors also elevated Professor Oleg Wasynczuk to IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2009 with the citation for contributions to modeling and analysis in power electronics.

She is a student of Professor Kaushik Roy working in the area of highly reliable, low-power nanoscaled heterogeneous system design in emerging technologies.

He also won the 2008 ISLPED Design Contest Award for his paper titled: "A 150mV, process variation tolerant Schmitt trigger based sub-threshold SRAM". He is working with Professor Kaushik Roy.

The 39,370-square-foot, $18 million Seng-Liang Wang Hall is named after the father of Purdue alumnus Patrick Wang, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson Electric in Hong Kong.

Charles A. Bouman was appointed the Michael J. and Katherine R. Birck Professorship. Edward J. Delp was appointed the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professorship. Michael D. Zoltowski was appointed the Thomas J. and Wendy Engibous Professorship.

Lynn M. Stevenson received the Administrative/Professional Customer Service Award and Daniel E. Leaird received the Professional Achievement Award.
