New Research Field Promises Radical Advances in Optical Technologies

A new research field called transformation optics that may usher in a host of radical advances including a cloak of invisibility and ultra-powerful microscopes and computers will be described in an article to be published in the journal Science. The article was written by Vladimir Shalaev, Purdue's Robert and Anne Burnett Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Purdue Researchers on Howard Hughes Medical Institute Teams

William Chappell, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is on a team that will study treatments for glaucoma and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, with support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Professors David Ebert and Oleg Wasynczuk elevated to IEEE Fellows effective January 1, 2009.

The IEEE Board of Directors, at its meeting on November 12, 2008, elevated Professor David Ebert to IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2009 with the citation for contributions to data visualization and its applications. The IEEE Board of Directors also elevated Professor Oleg Wasynczuk to IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2009 with the citation for contributions to modeling and analysis in power electronics.

ECE Faculty Receive Named and Distinguished Professorships

Charles A. Bouman was appointed the Michael J. and Katherine R. Birck Professorship. Edward J. Delp was appointed the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professorship. Michael D. Zoltowski was appointed the Thomas J. and Wendy Engibous Professorship.
