Students engage with representatives of the Purdue ECE Corporate Partners Program in the Bill and Shirley Rice Design Studio in West Lafayette

Boilermaker Circuit, one of the group career fairs that ECE’s Corporate Partners Program organizes specifically for ECE students, was held on September 17 in West Lafayette and September 18 in Indianapolis. The event drew representatives from 23 Corporate Partner companies, who engaged with about 600 students throughout the day about internships, co-op, and full-time positions.

Hundreds of students were lined up outside the Bill and Shirley Rice Design Studio before the start of the event. Milind Kulkarni, the Michael and Katherine Birck Head and Professor of the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering welcomed the Partner representatives and students. He emphasized the important role Corporate Partners play in shaping our students’ careers and the significance of ECE-specific recruiting events like this to get our students unique opportunities to be hired by these engaged Partner companies.

Saurabh Bagchi, professor of ECE and Director of ECE Corporate Partnerships, encouraged the students to consider each engagement with the Corporate representatives to be a learning opportunity and urged the Partner representatives to share with the students what possible careers in their organizations would look like. 

Corporate Partner representatives, Corporate Partners Programe staff, and ECE Ambassadors ended the day with a dinner.

Throughout the day, most of the Partner booths had lines and energizing discussions between the industry representatives and the students. The event was tailored to ECE students and therefore, many felt there was a good match of interests compared to more general career fairs. The students could use their time more effectively as they had been informed by the Corporate Partnerships office ahead of the event of the requirements of the various Corporate Partners, in terms of level (BS/MS/PhD), technical areas, and citizenship or visa requirements.

Staff from the Corporate Partners Program, led by Matthew Potrawski and Mary Ann Satterfield, handled the logistics of the event. Student employees Sumedha Saravanakumar and Sudhanva Deshpande used software tools that they had developed to track the participants in the event and draw insights from the data about enrollment. After a long day of being on one’s feet, the Corporate Partner representatives and some students, including from ECE Ambassadors group, got to enjoy a relaxed dinner along with staff from the Corporate Partners Program. Bagchi led a quiz on technology and Purdue-related topics.
