Purdue ECE Prof. Saurabh Bagchi named Fellow of Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association
Saurabh Bagchi, professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, has been named a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA). He was recognized for his contributions to artificial intelligence for computer system dependability and security.
The AAIA Fellowship is awarded to individuals who have made significant, lasting contributions to the theory, technology, and applications of artificial intelligence. Bagchi’s research focuses on building dependable and secure distributed systems, with applications that span cloud computing, machine learning systems, and the Internet of Things.
“This recognizes work that our group has been doing for the last roughly 8 years adapting AI to improve the dependability and security of computing systems as well as improving AI systems themselves,” said Bagchi. “Purdue ECE and College of Engineering provides a rich set of experts in AI who we collaborate with.”
At Purdue, Bagchi leads the National Science Foundation Center, CHORUS, on resilience in cyber-physical systems and a focus on resilience in connected and autonomous transportation systems. He also directs the Army-funded Assured Autonomy Innovation Institute (A2I2). His team develops AI-based techniques to detect, diagnose, and recover from faults and cyberattacks in complex computing environments.
The Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2021. AAIA is an academic, non-profit and non-governmental organization with over 2,000 Fellows worldwide. AAIA aims to build a broad AI industry to promote the development and application of AI in different fields of science and technology.
Bagchi is a member of the Governing Board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society and Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). His election to AAIA Fellow adds to a distinguished career advancing the reliability and security of modern computing systems.
Bagchi joins several Purdue faculty members who have been elected Fellows of AAIA in the recent past. They are Jan Allebach, Santokh Badesha, Aldo Scutari, Eugene Spafford, and Wojciech Szpankowski.
