Purdue Prof. Timothy Rogers selected by NAE to attend prestigious national symposium
Timothy Rogers, associate professor in Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is among the highly accomplished early-career engineers selected by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) to participate in the 2024 Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering Symposium to be held in Irvine, Calif., Sept. 11-14.
The Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering is an annual three-day meeting that brings together 100 of the nation’s outstanding early-career engineers (within 12 years of final degree–MS or PhD) from industry, academia, and government to discuss pioneering technical and leading-edge research in various engineering fields and industry sectors.
This year’s symposium will address cutting-edge developments in four areas: Water-Air-Surface Connections for Indoor Microbiology and Health; Building the Future of AI; Understanding and Engineering Connections Between the Gut and the Brain; and the Impending Revolution of Digital Twin. The goal of the Frontiers of Engineering program is to bring together engineers from all engineering disciplines and from industry, universities, and federal labs to facilitate cross-disciplinary exchange and promote the transfer of new techniques and approaches across fields to sustain and build U.S. innovative capacity.
The program provides an opportunity for these top-notch engineers to learn about cutting-edge developments in fields other than their own, thereby facilitating collaborative work and the transfer of new approaches and techniques across fields. Through both formal sessions and informal discussions, the meetings have proven an effective mechanism for the establishment of cross-disciplinary and cross-sector contacts among this country's future engineering leaders.
Participation is by invitation following a competitive nomination and selection process.
Purdue ECE faculty members chosen to attend past symposia include Christopher Brinton (2023), Dana Weinstein (2020), Dimitrios Peroulis (2017), Peter Bermel (2015), Alexandra Boltasseva (2012), and Dan Jiao (2011).
