This Wednesday (April 26), Distinguished Technologist and Strategist at Hewlett Packard (HP), Dr. Mark Shaw, will join Professor Saurabh Bagchi in person in an interactive fireside chat about his career at HP and what it takes to manage and to succeed. The session is a part of the dual undergraduate and graduate class “Stories of Success”, which brings exciting speakers from our alums and technical leaders at our Corporate Partners, to speak with our students about professional career paths.

The event will be held on the ECE campus in person and will be livecast. Dr. Shaw is a PhD alumnus from ECE, having gotten his degree in 2015 with Professors Jan Allebach and Edward Delp. His work includes video coding, color modelling and reproduction, gamut mapping, color management and image understanding through AI/ML. While at work, Mark focuses on driving new technologies to enable an improved customer experience. Mark has also worked with Purdue University for over 15 years, encouraging and mentoring students to work on challenging problems that solve real customer issues

The class, run by Professor Bagchi, draws both on-campus students and online students. Students post questions for discussion ahead of time plus synchronously during the sessions. This semester the class has brought thought-provoking speakers from companies as varied as Adobe, Xerox, Intel, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). There was also a panel on “Will AI Write All Our Software?” with two faculty panelists, Professors David Inouye and Aravind Machiry, and two industry panelists, from Google and AWS.
