Sarah Nahar Chowdury, a PhD student in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded the J.A. Woollam Company Scholarship from the Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation (SVCF). This scholarship recognizes students pursuing a field related to vacuum coating technology.

Chowdhury says she is extremely happy and grateful for the generous financial support towards her academics and research.  She is currently pursuing her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University and conducting research at Birck Nanotechnology Center.

“My research includes material synthesis, characterization and tailoring of optical properties,” says Chowdhury. “Vacuum coating technologies like physical vapor deposition (PVD), pulsed laser deposition (PLD), magnetron sputtering, and atomic layer deposition (ALD) play a significant role in all my projects.”

She says this scholarship gets her one step closer to her goal of excelling in her academic career and the ability to apply vacuum technologies for pioneering applications.
