ECE Faculty Promotions

Seven ECE faculty members were promoted this year. Zhihong Chen, Byunghoo Jung, Xiaojun Lin, Yung-Hsiang Lu, Minghao Qi, and Chih-Chun Wang were all promoted to Full Professor. Peter Bermel was promoted to Associate Professor. The promotions are effective starting with the 2017-2018 academic year.

Professor Peide "Peter" Ye receives 2017 Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award

Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi is a non-profit membership society of nearly 75,000 scientists and engineers who were elected to the Society because of their research achievements or potential. Sigma Xi has more than 500 chapters at universities and colleges, government laboratories, and industry research centers. Professor Ye's award included a plaque and $1,000.

HKN wins Outstanding Chapter Award (again!)

At the 2017 annual ECE Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) meeting, the Purdue (beta) chapter of HKN was once again recognized with the annual Outstanding Chapter Award.

Purdue to hold tuition flat through 2018-19

Purdue University President Mitch Daniels announced Monday (March 20) that the university will hold tuition at 2012 levels through the 2018-19 academic year, ensuring that four graduating classes will have gone through Purdue without ever experiencing a tuition increase and marking the sixth straight year of flat tuition after 36 years of increases. In addition, Daniels announced that the university will offer a 2.5 percent merit raise pool for employees for 2017.

Professor Shreyas Sen receives NSF CISE Research Initiation Initiative (CRII) Award

CRII is a program under the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at NSF. The award is established with the goal of encouraging research independence immediately upon obtaining the applicant’s first academic position after receipt of the PhD. The grant is designed to support untenured faculty or research scientists within their first three years in a primary academic position. This two-year-long award will support Professor Sen’s research on In-Sensor Analytics and Human Body Communication (HBC) for Implantables, which focuses on using the human body as a conducting medium to securely, safely and energy-efficiently connect implantable devices.
