ECE Professors elevated to IEEE Fellows for 2010

Professors Joerg Appenzeller, Anand Raghunathan, Timothy Sands, and Vladimir Shalaev have been elevated to IEEE Fellows effective January 1, 2010.

The IEEE Board of Directors elevated 309 IEEE Senior Members to Fellow grade effective January 1, 2010. Among them are ECE Professors Joerg Appenzeller, Anand Raghunathan, Timothy Sands, and Vladimir Shalaev. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.

Professor Joerg Appenzeller's citation for promotion is "for contributions to carbon nanotube transistors and circuits".

Professor Anand Raghunathan's citation reads "for contributions to the design of low-power and secure systems on chip".

Professor Timothy Sands' citation reads "for contributions to metal/semiconductor interfaces and heterogeneous integration".

Professor Vladimir Shalaev's citation for promotion is "for contributions to nanophotonics and the development of optical materials".
