How to Register for Research
Thesis research
ECE research courses include the following:
- ECE 69200, Introduction to Graduate Research
- ECE 69800, Research MS Thesis
- ECE 69900, Research PhD Thesis
Before you register:
- You must find a faculty member to supervise your research. Remember that only a certain number of credit hours can be used toward your degree; check the Thesis Track Curriculum Requirements webpage.
- Address all holds on your student record that affect registration. You can see your holds in myPurdue under the Academic or Financial tab at Do I have any Holds?
To register:
DO NOT use the scheduling assistant in myPurdue
Preferred process: Complete Form 23, available in the Graduate Office (MSEE 140).
Alternate process: Copy the ECE Graduate Office (ecegradreg@purdue.edu) on an email to your major professor asking for their approval of your registration request via email. Include the following information in the email:
- PUID
- Semester/year
- Course subject & course number

To locate the correct CRN:
- In myPurdue, locate the Course Catalog Resources card.
- Click Schedule of Classes.
- Select the correct term.
- Select Advanced Search.
- Select ECE as the subject, enter the course number (69800 or 69900), and then select (or type in) the instructor in the Instructor field at the very bottom.
- The correct CRN (5 digit number) will appear under the CRN column.

You will receive an email once the registration has been entered. Be sure to review it for accuracy.
