PhD student awarded first place at MRS symposium

David Rokke, a PhD student in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, was awarded first place for his research poster, presented at the Materials Research Society Spring Meeting & Exhibit, part of the Thin Film Compound Semiconductor Photovoltaics Symposium. The virtual event took place April 17 to April 23, and he was recognized at the awards ceremony on June 7.

ChE alumni highlighted in C&EN feature about Purdue's Minority Engineering Program

Established in 1974, Purdue’s Minority Engineering Program aims to increase the retention of historically underrepresented students of color in STEM by providing crucial academic and emotional support. The program was recently discussed in an article from Chemical & Engineering News, featuring interviews with several ChE alumni, including Purdue Engineering Fellow and Spring 2021 graduate Christina Core.

L. Wang's plastic-to-fuel tech to be commercialized

Hasler Ventures LLC plans to scale up to commercial levels a Purdue University patented technology that may accelerate the volume of waste plastic recycling. Developed by ChE’s Linda Wang, the innovation is called Low-Pressure Hydrothermal Processing and promises an economically and environmentally safe way to transform polyolefin plastic into gasoline, diesel fuel and other high-value items.
