Professor Geddes Recognized by American College of Clinical Engineers

Event Date: June 3, 2002

Dr. Leslie A. Geddes, the Showalter Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Bioengineering, was presented
with the Devteq Safety Award by the American College of Clinical Engineers in June. The award is
given annually by ACCE in recognition of significant work in the area of safety or safety management
as it relates to health care.

In his comments, Marvin Shepherd, President of Devteq, stated "I have followed Dr. Geddes' activities
for over 30 years and was delighted when the ACCE Advocacy Committee awarded him the Devteq
Safety Award. His work has provided basic knowledge of ventricular fibrillation, impedance
measurements, electric shock, electrode design, electrosurgery, and the like. Two of his more recent
books Electrical Hazards and Accidents (1995) and Medical Device Accidents (1998) provide the
device safety information that is needed by every Clinical Engineer and BMET in the field."
