Foundational Learning Outcome Info for BME Students
“The core curriculum is a set of common learning outcomes required of all undergraduate students. It acts as a mechanism by which all Purdue University students share a similar educational experience and, in doing so, achieve a set of common goals. The core curriculum consists of two levels of learning outcomes: foundational and embedded. All undergraduate students must meet the foundational learning outcomes, which are the same for all students, regardless of discipline or major.”

- Students must have all outcomes completed with a C- or better.
-
There are no credit hour conditions (unless you are transferring to another Indiana state university; see the website above for specific conditions).
- One course can meet more than one outcome.
-
First Year Engineering requirements include the following FLOs: Information Literacy, Written Communication, Science, Quantitative Reasoning, and Oral Communication.
- The remaining FLOs (Science, Tech & Society, Behavioral/Social Sciences, and Humanities) must be completed by graduation.
- Below is a list of courses that BME students most often use to fulfill FLO requirements (for full list of FLO courses: https://www.purdue.edu/provost/students/s-initiatives/curriculum/courses.html). FLO requirements are not the same as the BME general education requirements! For information on the general education policy, please refer to the BME website.
