Yunlong Liu, Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics, Biostatics and Health Data Sciences and BioHealth Informatics at Indiana University School of Medicine
Yunlong Liu, Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics, Biostatics and Health Data Sciences and BioHealth Informatics at Indiana University School of Medicine will present "Roles of regulatory variants and alternative splicing in complex diseases" on Wednesday, September 4th at 9:30 a.m. in MJIS 1001 and via Zoom.

Abstract: A growing number of genetic variants associated with complex traits have been identified by Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS). In this talk, I will introduce several projects aimed at pinpointing the genes and molecular features responsible for certain traits. We do this by integrating GWAS findings with both functional and computational genomics analysis, such as Massively Parallel Reporter Assays (MPRA), analysis of RNA sequencing data from both single cells and mixed cell populations, CRISPR-based gene editing experiments, and machine learning approaches.

Bio: Dr. Yunlong Liu is the T.K. Li Chair for Medical Research and Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine. He directs the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, a research center with 30 full time principal investigators, and the Center for Medical Genomics, a core facility for next-generation sequencing, single-cell analytics and spatial omics. Dr. Liu has extensive experience in computational modeling in gene regulation, with the focus on splicing regulation, on multiple disease systems including cancer and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and addiction.

50th Anniversary Quote of the Week: "Enhance your credibility by making your actions support your statements!" - Leslie A. Geddes, founder of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue, est. 1974.
