A preeminent research team led by Pedro P. Irazoqui, director of Purdue’s Center for Implantable Devices, associate professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is making progress in developing wireless implantable medical devices for treatment of a variety of conditions using wireless networks of nanoelectronic sensors and actuators.

The Weldon School is proud to announce that three of our students were named recipients of NSF Graduate Research Fellowships, and two received honorable mentions. In addition, two undergraduate students were awarded Charles C. Chappelle Fellowships.

Sherry Harbin, an associate professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Basic Medical Sciences, and founder of GeniPhys, is commercializing her laboratory's innovative collagen formulations that self-assemble or polymerize to form fibrils that resemble those found in the body's tissues.

The annual Awards of Excellence for engineering faculty were presented at the Faculty Recognition Banquet on Friday, April 10, 2015. Ann Rundell, associate professor of biomedical engineering, received the Engagement and Service Award. Jenna Rickus, associate professor of biomedical engineering and agricultural and biological engineering received the Advising Award.

A vibrational spectroscopic imaging technology that can take images of living cells could represent an advanced medical diagnostic tool for the early detection of cancer and other diseases.

Congratulations to Weldon School graduate students Rebecca Bercich, Meghan Canter, Tyler Novak, and Joyatee Sarker for receiving several Purdue Engineering awards in recognition of their exemplary teaching, research, and service.

Professor Ji-Xin Cheng has been notified that the Coblentz Society has selected him as the 2015 winner of the Craver Award.

Carla Brady, of the Weldon School Business office, has been selected to receive a College of Engineering Bravo Award for her extraordinary work this past year. The Bravo Award is intended to recognize faculty and staff who work in the College of Engineering and have made significant contributions in one or more of these four areas: Moving the University Forward, Operational Excellence, Innovation & Creativity, and Fiscal Stewardship.

Ann Rundell received a Butler Center Leadership in Action Award from the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence. Rundell is an associate professor of biomedical engineering and
associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.

This May, the Weldon School will commemorate its 9th class of graduates from the undergraduate program. As the seniors finalize their post-graduation plans, we celebrate the innumerable ways they have distinguished themselves. Their achievements reflect the high standards of our academic program.
