Brighter days are ahead as a team of researchers applies the use of light and other technologies to better the world’s health care, food safety, and biosecurity systems.

Eli Lilly and Company and Purdue University announced a strategic collaboration to conduct life science research. The five-year agreement, where Lilly will provide up to $52 million, marks Purdue's largest strategic collaboration with a single company. "The biomedical revolution is upon us, but harnessing its full potential will require strong collaboration between academic research centers and industry partners," said David Ricks, Lilly's chairman, president and chief executive officer and Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering advisory board member. "We look forward to expanding our relationship with Purdue as we work together to discover breakthrough solutions for patients."

Purdue University ranked 12th in the world among universities granted U.S. utility patents in 2016, according to a new report released by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).
