Seven Weldon School staff recognized with Purdue Bravo+ Award recipients
This year's recipients represent a wide range of roles across the school, but each shares a commitment to excellence and a willingness to go above and beyond in support of students, faculty, research and the university's mission.
Gena Brock, lead technician, was recognized for her exceptional professionalism, dedication and resourcefulness in supporting preclinical research. Whether identifying cost-effective alternatives during supply shortages or finding creative solutions to keep research moving forward, Brock consistently demonstrates initiative while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Her behind-the-scenes efforts have had a lasting impact on the success of research teams throughout the school.
Alex Harbin, research associate, received the award for his outstanding operational leadership following a critical staffing transition. He assumed responsibility for the production, development and testing of specialized collagen materials while helping secure a sponsored testing agreement and implementing an electronic quality management system to support future federally and industry-funded research. Harbin also led the laboratory through a successful sponsor audit, strengthening commercialization efforts and positioning the lab for continued growth.
Jennifer Hatch, lecturer, was honored for her leadership in implementing the integrated biomedical engineering curriculum across Purdue's West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations. She has taught multiple core undergraduate courses, coordinated instruction across campuses and played an active role on the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, including initiatives involving artificial intelligence in engineering education. Her dedication has helped ensure a consistent, high-quality educational experience for students.
Sigrun Jonsdottir, research account administrator, was recognized for her exceptional financial stewardship and administrative expertise in supporting complex sponsored research activities. Her proactive approach, deep institutional knowledge and ability to anticipate challenges have helped faculty successfully manage grants, budgets and compliance requirements while ensuring research operations remain efficient and effective.
Vlad Marasigan, associate instructional lab coordinator, was honored for his extraordinary commitment during a period of significant instructional need. In addition to his regular responsibilities, he assumed major teaching duties for undergraduate biomechanics and bioinstrumentation courses, supporting more than 130 students while maintaining the school's hands-on learning environment. He also developed new processes that improved communication, streamlined multi-campus course operations and enhanced the overall student experience.
Crystal O'Neal, administrative manager, received the Bravo+ Award for her operational excellence and collaborative leadership during a particularly demanding faculty recruiting season. While simultaneously managing two administrative roles after an unexpected vacancy, she maintained seamless operations by building partnerships across departments, supporting faculty recruitment and ensuring confidential matters were handled with professionalism and care.
Tammy Siemers, associate director of graduate programs, was recognized for her leadership in expanding graduate education and strengthening student recruitment. She has played a key role in growing professional master's programs in Indianapolis, developing innovative industry immersion experiences and leading graduate recruitment initiatives that continue to attract outstanding students to the Weldon School.
