David C. Gross joins Purdue Biomedical Engineering as an adjunct faculty member
Gross brings extensive experience in medical device development, regulatory science, and the translation of innovative medical technologies from concept to clinical practice to the Weldon School. He currently serves as Vice President of MED Institute, where he leads technical initiatives supporting the development, testing and commercialization of innovative medical technologies.
A Purdue University and Weldon School alumnus, Gross earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue before completing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University. Since returning to MED Institute in 2016 as a Research & Development Engineer, he has advanced through leadership roles while building expertise in medical device development, failure analysis, advanced computational modeling and simulation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electromagnetic compatibility, regulatory science, and intellectual property and patent analysis.
Throughout his career, Gross has contributed to numerous publications and patents, reflecting his commitment to advancing medical technology and improving patient care.
As an adjunct faculty member, Gross will bring valuable industry perspective into the classroom, helping students connect engineering fundamentals with real-world medical device development, regulatory requirements and innovation. His experience working across the entire medical device development lifecycle, from early concept and design through regulatory approval and commercialization, will provide students with insights into the challenges and opportunities of translating new technologies from concept to clinical use.
