Radhika Kulkarni, who is a Supplier Quality Engineer at Boston Scientific, has an internship opportunity and other undergraduate experiences to thank for her current role.

Kulkarni graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering in December 2023. She started at Boston Scientific through a three-rotation co-op while completing her undergraduate degree.

“In the expansive realm of Biomedical Engineering, my three-rotation co-op at Boston Scientific provided invaluable insight into medical device manufacturing. This experience not only clarified my career path but also sparked an interest in this specialized field,” said Kulkarni. “As I navigated through my Co-Op, I honed crucial engineering skills, building upon the foundation laid in school. These skills, coupled with hands-on experience, enabled me to contribute effectively and ultimately secure a full-time position with Boston Scientific upon graduation.”

In Kulkarni’s current role, she works with suppliers to ensure the quality of their products and conducts supplier audits.

“As a Supplier Quality Engineer specializing in Sourced Finished Medical Devices, I spearhead supplier quality initiatives within my designated supplier portfolio,” said Kulkarni. “This includes addressing nonconformances, facilitating contract adjustments and maintaining quality documentation. Additionally, I conduct supplier audits to ensure adherence to ISO 13485 standards. I analyze product defects, communicate issues to suppliers and investigate field failures to develop corrective action plans when necessary.”

Kulkarni’s internship was not the only thing that prepared her for her career. During her time on campus, she was involved in numerous activities. She was involved as a Peer Counselor for the Office of Future Engineers (OFE), a Biomedical Engineering Ambassador, a BME 460 undergraduate teaching assistant and a volunteer for the Women in Engineering program.

Kulkarni conducted her undergraduate research in the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Laboratory with Professor Craig Goergen. She had the opportunity to contribute her skills and knowledge to various research projects and present that research at the 2023 BMES Conference in Seattle.

Kulkarni graduated with a minor in Business Economics and plans to pursue a master’s degree in business analytics in the fall of 2024. She will pursue her degree part time while working full time for Boston Scientific.
