Weldon School students are crowd favorites in 3-minute thesis competitions

Orlando Hoilett and Divya Tankasala
A dozen graduate students participated in the inaugural Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering Thesis Competition, held on March 23. Orlando Hoilett was the overall winner. Divya Tankasala won second place and was the Crowd Favorite. A few days later, Hoilett also won the People’s Choice Award at Purdue’s Three Minute Thesis Competition.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The competition challenges participants to present their research, its significance, and relevance in just 180 seconds, in a compelling form that can be understood by an intelligent audience with no background in the research area. The exercise supports the development of research students' capacity to consolidate their ideas, crystalize their research discoveries, and communicate their ideas to a live audience.
