BME GSA Special Midwest Speaker Exchange Seminar - Fri., Nov. 21

Event Date: November 21, 2014
Hosted By: Biomedical Engineering Graduate Student Association
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Location: MJIS 1001, WL campus
Jennifer Taylor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Minnesota, will be presenting a seminar as part of the Midwest BME Speaker Exchange on Friday, November 21, at 10:30 a.m. in MJIS 2001.

The seminar will be entitled "Investigating Brain Energetics."

Cerebral ischemia sets off a cascade of neuronal and metabolic responses to preserve brain viability. Understanding the temporal evolution of these changes during and after ischemia is essential. Here, a whole brain acute ischemia model was explored in rats. Using a high-temporal resolution simultaneous 1H-31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) acquisition sequence at 9.4T, we investigate dynamic occlusion and reperfusion responses in brain lactate, phosphocreatine (PCr), ATP, pH, and BOLD, in complement to changes in neuronal field potential activity.

***Light refreshments will be provided at West Lafayette***
