BME Undergraduates Selected for Honors

A number of BME undergraduate students have been selected for singular honors as they finish up the Spring semester.

Ronit Patnaik and Jennifer Munley have been selected to receive Charles Wayne Sullivan Outstanding Sophomore Scholarships. This honor is based on their strong performance in our undergraduate program, and comes with a monetary award. The scholarship was set up by the family of Charles Wayne Sullivan, who graduated from Purdue in 1936 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, he found much success in his career with Leeds and Northrup Company, manufacturers of electrical measuring instruments. The family established this scholarship to honor Mr. Sullivan's pride in Purdue.

Kateri Fites and Duanyi Wei will receive Havel Decker Outstanding Junior Scholarships, which also come with a monetary award, for their continuing excellence in our program. The Havel Decker Scholarship was established by Ken and Kitty Decker. The Deckers come from a long line of alums and friends of Purdue. They passed their love of Purdue on to their two daughters, who graduated from Purdue and married Purdue graduates. Their gift in 2006 established the Weldon School's first scholarship.

The David and Stephen Grubbs Summer Research Award is going to Ronit Patnaik, Jonathan Manring, and Daniel Duffy. This award will support these students while they perform research under the supervision of a faculty member in the Weldon School. David and Stephen Grubbs are Purdue Engineering graduates, who are also practicing physicians. (David's specialty is cardiology, and Stephen's is oncology.) Because they believed that their undergraduate research experience was so valuable, they created this opportunity for undergraduates.

Congratulations to all of these exceptional Weldon students.
