At the recent "Sweet Successes" welcome back gathering, it was announced that four BME graduate students had been selected to received Ronald Dollens Graduate Scholarships.

Emily Gullotti is a graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Yoon Yeo. Emily received her BS in Materials Science Engineering from MIT and joined Purdue in 2007. Her research focuses on developing nanoparticles consisting of a biodegradable polymer core conjugated to two peptides that will allow them to remain inert in circulation by being readily taken up once they reach a tumor.

David Jaroch is a graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Jenna Rickus. David received his MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Michigan Technological University and joined Purdue in 2007. His research focuses on developing a set of procedures by which drugs, biomolecules, and living cells can be incorporated into a protective sol-gel glass matrix.

He Wang is a graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Zheng Ouyang. He received his MS in biology from Tsinghua University and joined Purdue in 2008. His research focuses on developing a new direct sampling and ionization method paper spray which is useful for fast, qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex mixtures using mass spectrometry.

Chia-Jung Wu is a graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Gudrun Schmidt. Chia-Jung received his MS in biomedical engineering from the National Taiwan University and joined Purdue University in 2007. His research focuses on the design of elastomeric nanocomposite hydrogels for interfacial tissue repair.

The Ronald W. Dollens Graduate Scholarship was founded in 2005 to honor Ron Dollen's leadership in industry and the life sciences. In addition to his position with Guidant, he has served as president of the Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division of Eli Lilly Company, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. He also spends much time in Washington, D.C., working with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The scholarship acknowledges Mr. Dollens' commitment to addressing challenges in the healthcare industry, his dedication to Purdue, and his passion for enhancing educational opportunities.

Congratulations to our newest recipients!
