Dr. Geddes to Receive 2003-2004 Outstanding Commercialization Award for Purdue University

Event Date: January 9, 2004

On January 20, Dr. Leslie A. Geddes will receive the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Outstanding Commercialization Award. The award is presented to a tenure-track faculty member who most epitomizes the spirit of entrepreneurialism in the commercialization of Purdue-generated technologies. Endowed by a generous grant from the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, the award reflects a keen awareness among corporate leaders in Indiana of the key contributions of our more entrepreneurial faculty members to the strategic goals of Purdue University in Discovery, Learning and Engagement.

"Thanks in part to Professor Geddes, Indiana is now a national leader in biomedical industries," said Purdue President Martin C. Jischke. "Quite simply, Les Geddes is one of the most prolific inventors in the history of Purdue University." Professor Geddes has 30 patents, many now licensed by Indiana companies. Patents and technologies developed in Professor Geddes' lab have generated $15 million in royalties for Purdue.

During the 3:30 p.m. award ceremony on January 20th, Professor Geddes will deliver a lecture entitled "The Perfect Prosthesis?" in which he will describe the events leading up to the discovery of a regenerative tissue graft made from a layer of pig intestines known as small intestinal submucosa (SIS). The seminar will be held in Stewart Center, Room 206, and will be followed by a reception at 4:30 in the Stewart Center Art Gallery.
