Prof. Mario Svirsky Elected to AIMBE College of Fellows

Professor Mario A. Svirsky, professor of biomedical engineering and electrical engineering at Purdue and professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine, has been elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows. He will be inducted in an official ceremony on February 27, 2004 during AIMBE’S annual meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

The number of individuals granted membership in the AIMBE College of Fellows is limited to 2% of the total number of individuals active in medical and biological engineering. It is the highest status attainable in AIMBE. Fellows are recognized by AIMBE as persons who have uniquely distinguished themselves in the field. Prof. Svirsky’s citation for election is: "For his contribution to understanding speech perception, speech production and language development in cochlear implant users."

Other Purdue BME faculty who will be inducted at the January 2004 ceremony include Professors Charles Bouman, John Nyenhuis and Paul Robinson.
