Professor Michael R. Ladisch Receives Johnson Award from American Chemical Society

Event Date: March 19, 2002

Professor Michael R. Ladisch will receive the 2002 Marvin J. Johnson Award at the American Chemical
Society's Spring meeting in April. The purpose of the award is to recognize independent and original
research that has exceptionally significant impact upon the field of microbial and biochemical
technology. Professor Ladisch has developed an internationally recognized, cross-disciplinary research
program in the areas of bioseparations, biocatalysis, and biomass conversion. A portion of his work
aims at ultimately developing practical methods for extracting valuable products from plants and
animals far less expensively than they can be made through conventional technologies. Such products
range from anti-bacterial compounds to vitamins, and disease-fighting proteins to other important
materials for medical and industrial applications.

The Johnson Award was established by the Division of Biochemical Technology of the American
Chemical Society, and includes both a cash award and a plaque.
