"Purdue provided me with an excellent technical foundation, and it is the focus on engineering fundamentals and problem solving that has been most valuable. I have had the privilege to work with many Purdue graduates, and it is these same skills that set them apart in the workplace. I am grateful for the opportunities my Purdue education provided."

Markus Heinimann received his BSAAE in 1992, MSAAE in 1994, and PhD in 1997, all from Purdue's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Currently, Heinimann serves as chief design engineer for Aerospace Structures in the Product Design and Development Division of the Alcoa Technical Center. In this role he leads the development and validation of advanced metallic and hybrid structural concepts for future commercial and military aircraft structures. Prior to joining Alcoa in 2002, Heinimann served in various engineering positions at Cessna Aircraft Company, including leading the fatigue and damage tolerance activities during the development and certification of the Citation Sovereign business jet.

Heinimann has published a number of papers and given numerous presentations on fatigue and fracture of aerospace structures as well as advanced structural concepts. He is a member of ASTM and AIAA, and serves as chairman of the sub-committee on Structural Applications within the ASTM committee on Fatigue and Fracture, and is also a member of the editorial board of the ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation. In 2004, he received the Keith B. Miller Outstanding Young Investigator award from ASTM.
