MSE Opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering Starting Date August 2013 or January 2014

Visiting Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering

School of Materials Engineering

Purdue University

Starting Date August 2013 or January 2014.

The School of Materials Engineering has a current opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor.  The position will be a 23-month temporary non-tenure track appointment, for up to 23 months; with a starting date will be at least one week prior to the academic semester that begins either August 2013 or January 2014.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a minimum of one course during each of the fall, spring and summer terms.  Concurrently, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out a research program of their own interests as well as developing collaborative research with existing faculty on campus.  The position is ideally suited to a candidate who is almost ready to embark on an academic career path, but is interested in developing a broader independent portfolio of research and instructional skills, utilizing the existing capabilities available at Purdue. It is expected the candidate will co-advise graduate students with existing faculty, supervise undergraduate researchers, and pursue extramural support for their own research activities.  A modest seed funding mechanism to support independent and collaborative research activities is available.

The School of Materials Engineering currently has 22 faculty members, 130 undergraduates, and over 90 graduate students.  The School has well established laboratory facilities for processing and characterizing metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and electronic materials, as well as access to world-class computational facilities.  In addition to School resources, Purdue faculty members collaborate through activities at Discovery Park, where the Birck Nanotechnology Center, Bindley Bioscience Center, and Burton Morgan Entrepreneurship Center are located.  More information on our existing facilities can be found at http://www.purdue.edu/mse

Interested candidates should electronically provide a cover letter stating their suitability for the position, a list of three references, a CV, and a two page (maximum) statement of research and teaching interests to Ms. Donna Bystrom, Administrative Assistant, School of Materials Engineering; bystrom@purdue.edu.  Applications will be reviewed beginning immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.  Purdue University is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action employer.
