ABSTRACT

3xxx series Al alloys offer good corrosion resistance and good formability. They are often used to manufacture beverage cans and heat exchangers in energy and automotive systems. Meanwhile, the recycling of 3xxx series alloys requires the high demand to reduce the energy and carbon emissions. A detailed understanding of the compositional effects (e.g., Mn, Fe, Si, etc.) on the particles and properties is required due to a wide range of alloy compositions in the incoming scrap. This document firstly reviewed the current studies involving the effect of various elements on particles and recrystallization in 3xxx series alloys. Then the document evaluated the feasibility of using laser additive manufacturing (AM) to study the elements by high-throughput method.
