Fall 2024 Registration

Read the Fall 2024 Registration newsletter that covers specific instructions for required meetings and steps for registration for all EEE undergraduate students not graduating in May or August. There is a new process for when students will receive access to their primary advisor's BoilerConnect Registration Advising Appointment calendar. The EEE Faculty Mentor meeting must be completed first. Please carefully read this newsletter and pay attention to highlighted sections.

Summer 2024 Registration - Open Registration in Progress

The full Summer 2024 Schedule of Classes is now posted in your myPurdue portal. Students can view the full list of online courses on the Think Summer website. Students manually schedule themselves in the Schedule Assistant for summer session (not PreRegistration/Batch process).

The summer PIN will be needed and it is the same as the spring PIN that you received for Spring 2024. Students are welcome to make an appointment with their primary advisor in BoilerConnect if they are unsure what courses to take, but students are not required to do mentoring.

Summer Internships: EEE 39699 Professional Practice Internship Course

Recently, Purdue has waived fees associated with coop/internships so there’s a new philosophy to enroll students so that Purdue can ensure students have a valuable work experience.  Students enrolled in EEE 39699 will have tasks in a Brightspace course that Ms. Whelton administers. This is a 0-credit course that will allow you to document your work experience on your Purdue transcript, with a time commitment of approximately 2-3 hours total. See EEE 39699 flyer or the following for further explanation on transcribing work experiences: https://www.opp.purdue.edu/our-programs/academic-internships. Email Ms. Whelton (mwhelton@purdue.edu) with questions.

There are several benefits of registering for EEE 39699 while completing a Work Integrated Learning Experience such as Co-op or Internship. Students enrolled in the course will be able to:

  • Identify and articulate their individual growth in specific technical and professional skills as a result of the experience.

  • Create a record of what was gained through the experience, which will be beneficial for future interviews, resume writing, the overall job search, etc.

  • Receive valuable feedback from their employers.

  • Stay connected: During the internship or co-op experience, students are connected to campus via their course instructor.

  • Provide feedback to Purdue about workplace satisfaction, salaries, benefits, etc.

  • Help Purdue become the #1 university in the U.S. for co-op and internship programs, increasing the value of the Purdue degree.

In addition to registering internship experiences, students may later become eligible to enroll in the co-op program and earn a co-op certificate which will show on the transcript.

Job Corner with Ms. Whelton, PE

If you are looking for summer job opportunities there is still time.  I will continue to send emails about opportunities.

The CCO is a great place to find both full time and internship related opportunities.  I don’t post their opportunities.  If you don’t have a CCO account or haven’t looked at it this semester, please go to here.  The jobs tab of Linked In is another great way to look for jobs or even using general job search engines.  Don’t forget that research counts as related experience!

The final career fair of the semester is the Just in Time career fair on April 17th.  In addition, informational sessions are still occurring which can be a great way to connect with employers.   Keep checking to see if more are added to the CCO calendar.

The CCO is also hosting a virtual negotiation event.  Might be good to attend this on March 26th at 5pm if it fits your schedule.  You will need to register to attend.  I’m also here to help you with your personal negotiation, job offer, career path and resume.  Just email me to make an appointment. In your request include your availability for the appointment.

The CCO is also hosting several workshops specifically for international students.  In particular there is a workshop on sponsorship and works visas on March 19th at 5pm.  It is virtual and you must register prior to March 17th to be able to attend.

Need a professional outfit for an interview or EEE’s recognition night on April 25th?  The CCO has a career closet where you can get a professional outfit for free!

Have a relaxing and refreshing spring break.

SEEE-SAC Spring 2024 EEE Mid-Semester Survey

Please complete the survey by Sunday, March 24th at 11:59 PM.

SERU Survey

Purdue undergraduate students are invited to participate in the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey. The survey is available through March 31. Students will receive a unique survey link in their Purdue email account. Students who complete the survey will be entered to win one of several Amazon gift cards ranging from $50-100. The SERU is a nationwide survey designed for large, public research universities. The SERU is Purdue’s only campus wide survey for measuring student opinions among all undergraduates on academics, advising, student life, campus climate, health and wellness, and much more. EEE Combined Degree Program

Environmental and Ecological Engineering, in collaboration with other Purdue departments, schools, and programs offers a combined degree program in which a Purdue student can receive a BS degree, and with one additional year of study, a non-thesis Master of Science in Environmental and Ecological Engineering (MSEEE) degree. This is accomplished by dual-counting 12 appropriate course credits at the 500 level on the BS and MSEEE Plans-of-Study.

Students with an overall GPA of 3.25 or better are encouraged to consider applying to the EEE Combined Degree program. Apply during your junior year, generally the 6th semester (or with 2 additional semesters yet to complete the BS degree).  Talk to your EEE Faculty Mentor, your EEE advisor, Prof. Fu Zhao or email eeegrad@purdue.edu with specific questions.  See the following link for details: https://engineering.purdue.edu/EEE/Academics/CurrentStudents/Graduate/CombinedDegreeProgram.

Systems Certification

Systems Thinking skills are very valuable for students in every college here at Purdue. Are you interested in addressing grand challenges that are of global concern—such as environmental sustainability and energy use, natural and human disasters, and political and economic development? Do you want to analyze and solve real world problems?

Systems courses will give students the skills and perspectives they need to work with companies, governments and communities around the world, to solve complex socio-technical problems using a holistic approach and convergence of knowledge.

ALL three undergraduate Systems Courses {SYS 300, SYS 350, and SYS 400} are open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.

Courses can be taken in any order and students can enroll in the courses before they add the Systems Certificate.

Find more information here. Any questions about the Systems courses or the Systems Certificate can be sent to

Catherine “Kat” Burkhart (caburkha@purdue.edu)

DeBoer Lab Research Opportunity

DeBoer Lab is an engineering education lab which focuses on creating educational resources for displaced communities around the world. Their values in the design of our content are rooted in understanding how we can promote equity and success for diverse engineering students through the use of highly contextualized and localized curricula.

Given the interdisciplinary approaches that DeBoer uses in the lab, they are trying to recruit undergraduate researchers from different engineering majors, especially in EEE. To teach the kids engineering content to solve the problems in their community, they created an EngStarter Kit, that has microcontrollers and sensors to aid in problem definition and evaluation. These kits are used in projects that relate strongly to the environment; such as creating lessons on sensors for youth in an LGBTQ home in Indianapolis to aid in growth of agriculture.

DeBoer is looking for undergraduate researchers to work in curriculum design and the development of educational materials. Please indicate your interest through the QR code given in the attached flyer and we will get back to you shortly!
