Urban Water Projects class introduces service-learning and collaborative design

A class in Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University is stepping outside the typical classroom setting to provide a real-world, client-based design experience for students. EEE 49500, Urban Water Projects was launched in 2013 by the Director of Service Learning, Dr. Lindsay Payne in an effort to provide best-management practices when dealing with items like stormwater.

Dr. Jafvert to be inducted as Purdue University Teaching Academy Fellow

The Purdue University Teaching Academy is set to recognize Environmental and Ecological Engineering professor Dr. Chad Jafvert, amongst others.

Academy fellows are recognized for their outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate or engagement programs. Candidates were identified by their individual department or college/school based upon evidence of excellence in teaching, innovation in teaching methodology, teaching-related service, and scholarship in teaching and learning.

EEE Graduate Student Enze Jin Presents at PIRE

In May 2017, Environmental and Ecological Engineering graduate student Enze Jin presented at the Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) meeting in Eugene, Oregon. PIRE is a National Science Foundation program that supports projects which aim to advance research and education that could not occur without international collaboration.

RET Site Program Brings STEM Educators Together to Develop Engineering Expertise

Eleven high school STEM educators from Alabama and Indiana were on the campus of Purdue University on Friday, July 14 for the culmination of a summer-long research experience. In its second year, the Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) Program was created through a partnership with Purdue University’s Environmental and Ecological Engineering program and Tuskegee University.

Dr. Chad Jafvert Receives AEESP Outstanding Publication Award

Dr. Chad Jafvert, professor of Civil Engineering and Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University, was recently awarded the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Outstanding Publication Award for his influential 1992 paper “Reaction Scheme for the Chlorination of Ammoniacal Water.1

Environmental and Ecological Engineering Outstanding Senior Award Announced

The EEE Outstanding Senior was announced at the EEE Recognition Night in late April. This award is conferred each academic year by the faculty of EEE to recognize the excellence of one member of the senior class. It is selected based on academic performance, leadership, service, and professional activities. The EEE faculty selected the recipient. This year the award went to Jason "Jake" Hawes. Jake received the award from Prof. Nies.
