Student Rights and Responsibilities
The Office of the Dean of Students- Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) is currently accepting applications for the position of Graduate Administrative/Professional Assistantship for the 2014-15 academic year. The selected applicant will assist in the delivery of services and programs that support the mission of OSRR and enhance the overall quality of the student life experience at Purdue University. While all academic majors will be considered, graduate students with a background in education, social services, humanities, human resources, training and development, criminal justice and/or law are especially encouraged to apply.
Specific job duties for the selected candidate will include:
• Process highly confidential material, maintaining University discipline records, maintain student
conduct database with all information related to academic integrity and code of conduct cases
including but not limited to faculty or staff reports, case notes, notification letters, sanction
letters, and other investigate components of a case to create a complete file.
• Serve as a university conduct officer to assist professional staff members in the office with the resolution of student conduct cases that may be violations of the Purdue University Code of Student Conduct. This includes reviewing reports for potential violations of the Code of Student Conduct, meeting with students to resolve cases, and assigning and tracking appropriate university and educational sanctions.
• Assist in the on-going development, training, and assessment of educationally based sanctions that will be used by the office. This may include assisting in the development and implementation of workshops that address ethical decision making, alcohol and other drug use and academic integrity, and conflict resolution.
• Assist with on-going outreach and promotional efforts within the campus and local community. This includes working with offices such as other units within the Office of the Dean of Students (Student Activities and Organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Counseling, Disability Resource Center, etc), University Residences, Purdue University Police Department, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Wellness, West Lafayette Police Department, and the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.
• Serve on Office of the Dean of Students task forces, committees, and working groups as assigned
• Assist as necessary with other duties and assignments that support the mission and services of the Office of the Dean of Students
Requires operating knowledge of Microsoft office, operating knowledge of standard office equipment, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
The assistantship provides a salary of $1274 per month, along with a remission of all but a nominal portion of tuition and fees each semester. Some academic schools also require a differential fee which is not covered by this assistantship. The selected candidate will also be eligible to be enrolled in the Graduate Student Staff Health Plan, accrue vacation and sick leave time, and be eligible for on-campus parking in a designated area.
The tentative dates for this assistantship are August 18, 2014-May 15, 2015. The typical work working hours for this position will be 20 hours a week between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday-Friday. However, some evening and/or weekend work may be required given the needs of the office. The selected applicant is expected to be in good standing with the university both academically and conduct wise, and to pass a background security check.
