ChE graduate student Swapnil Dattatray Deshmukh places second in AIChE Inorganic Chemistry Area

Davidson School of Chemical Engineering graduate student Swapnil Deshmukh recently won second place in the 2020 AIChE Graduate Student Award Competition in the Inorganic Chemistry Area (08D) for his research in "Synthesis of Metal Chalcogenide Nanoparticles and Micro-assemblies Using Facile Amine-Thiol Solvent Chemistry for Applications in the Field of Semiconducting Materials."

The Inorganic Chemistry Graduate Student Award Session at the AIChE Annual Conference is created to recognize graduate students whose research achievements, in the broad area of inorganic materials, demonstrate a high level of excellence. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 AIChE Annual Conference was held virtually from November 16-20.

Dr. Xueyi Zhang, 2020 Graduate Award Session Chair in the Inorganic Chemistry Area of the Materials Engineering & Sciences Division (MESD), said to Deshmukh, "Winning this award is a great recognition of your achievements, because awardees must demonstrate a leading role in the advancement of their research."

Deshmukh is a sixth-year graduate student studying with Dr. Rakesh Agrawal, the Winthrop E. Stone Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering. His research involves developing solution processing chemistries for synthesis and fabrication of electronic devices including photovoltaic and thermoelectric applications. After completing his PhD, Deshmukh plans to work in the semiconductor field to improve and develop new device fabrication processes.
