In addition to the honor, this grant provides $15,000 per year to support his research on the synthesis and applications of inorganic oxides with tailored composition and surface properties. This funding will continue until tenure is achieved, up to a maximum of three years.

Professor Gounder joined the School of Chemical Engineering in fall 2013. He holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He also completed a postdoctoral research stay at the California Institute of Technology. He currently advises six graduate students and co-advises one graduate student. His research focuses on the science of heterogeneous catalysis within the context of energy and environmental problems, including carbon feedstock conversion to chemicals and fuels and NOx pollution abatement technologies.
