Professor Houze Receives 2015 A.A. Potter Award from CoE

Purdue College of Engineering honored Professor R. Neal Houze with the top undergraduate teaching award.

Professor R. Neal Houze was recently named as the recipient of the 2015 A.A. Potter Best Teacher Award in the College of Engineering at Purdue. This marks the second time that Professor Houze has received this award that honors faculty members for outstanding teaching performance in all phases of the College of Engineering's undergraduate instruction on the West Lafayette campus. A.A. Potter Award recipients are nominated by their respective schools based on recommendations from undergraduate students. Students also are part of the selection committee that determines the final recipient of the award, making the Potter Award one truly representative of student opinion.

Professor Houze was nominated for his unique approach to teaching that encourages students to own their learning; he consistently receives top marks in course evaluations. Additionally, he has been instrumental in course improvement and innovations throughout his career.

Professor Houze earned a PhD from the University of Houston in 1968 and joined the Purdue faculty in 1969. During his career he was integral to the College of Engineering Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program working in a leadership role to strengthen the academic integrity of the Co-Op Program and helping employers develop quality opportunities for students, and encouraging all students to pursue the career-related work experiences.
