Fabio Ribeiro, the R. Norris and Eleanor Shreve Professor of Chemical Engineering, is the recipient of the 2015 Herman Pines Award in Catalysis. This award is given to recognize Professor Ribeiro’s outstanding research in the field of Catalysis.  Professor Ribeiro will receive this award during the Catalysis Club of Chicago Spring Symposium on May 14, 2015 at BP Research Center (Naperville, IL) and will deliver the award address at the Symposium.

The Herman Pines Award is given by the Catalysis Club of Chicago for outstanding research in the field of catalysis. Herman Pines was an outstanding research scientist, and his work revolutionized the general understanding of organic chemistry, particularly the chemistry of hydrocarbons interacting with strong acids. The award in his honor is sponsored by UOP where he began his industrial career in 1930 and amassed 145 US patents over a 23 year period. The award is being co-sponsored by the Catalysis Club of Chicago of which Dr. Pines was a founding member.

Professor Ribeiro has been a faculty member in the School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue since 2003 and was named the R. Norris and Eleanor Shreve Professor of Chemical Engineering in 2013. He is an Editor of the Journal of Catalysis, the flagship journal of the field, since 2010. He is Fellow of the AIChE and served in various leadership roles, including Chair of the Catalysis & Reaction Engineering Division (2010), and is currently serving as Director-at-large for the North American Catalysis Society (2013-2017). He has published over 110 research articles.
