The School of Chemical Engineering congratulates Jennifer Sinclair Curtis (BSChE ’83) and John Klier (MSChE ‘86, PhD ’89) on their recent awards from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Curtis, a distinguished professor and associate dean for research in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida, received the F.J. & Dorothy Van Antwerpen Award for Service to the Institute from the AIChE Board of Directors. In October 2015 Curtis will take over as Dean of the UC-Davis College of Engineering.

The Van Antwerpen Award recognizes a member of AIChE who has made outstanding contributions to the chemical engineering profession via service to AIChE. The award includes $5,000, a plaque and a $500 travel allowance, which are given during the Honors Ceremony at the AIChE Annual Meeting.

Klier is this year’s recipient of the Industrial Research & Development Award from AIChE. He is a distinguished fellow and global research and development director of polyurethanes and automotive systems at Dow Chemical Co. of Midland, Mich.

The Industrial Research & Development award recognizes individuals or teams working in the industries served by chemical engineers, for innovation that has resulted in the successful commercial development of new products and/or new processes for making useful products. Eligible nominees must be from industry or from a government laboratory or another nonacademic laboratory. The award recipient receives a plaque during the Honors Ceremony at the AIChE Annual Meeting.
