Purdue researchers uncover vulnerability in autonomous vehicle vision systems

A team of Purdue University researchers including Yiheng Feng, Assistant Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering and Assistant Director of the Center for Road Safety (CRS), have introduced a new, physically practical method called DetStorm that reveals a critical vulnerability in how autonomous vehicles process visual information.

Govindaraju named VP for Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District at Purdue

Rao S. Govindaraju has been named the vice president for Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District at Purdue. In this role, he will strengthen Discovery Park District's one-of-a-kind research and educational facilities, fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving research that advances the university's strategic priorities. Govindaraju, who has led the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering since 2012, will begin the role in January.

When true multidisciplinary research makes an impact: engineering, psychological and behavioral sciences join forces towards a common goal

Daylight and window views positively affect health and well-being in many ways. However, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are hypersensitive to environmental stimulation, which leads many educational facilities to use windowless spaces or fully block natural light to avoid potential distractions. Professor Thanos Tzempelikos leads a $600K collaborative research project with Ball State University, sponsored by NSF, to solve this problem.

Chris Burke receives ASCE President's Medal

Purdue Civil Engineering alumnus Chris Burke (BSCE '77, MSCE '79, PhD '83, HDR 2010) has received the 2025 President's Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was presented with the medal during the 2025 ASCE Convention held in Seattle, Washington.

All-Boilermaker team to crew Virgin Galactic suborbital mission Purdue 1

Building on its tremendous space legacy, Purdue University is pursuing a groundbreaking opportunity — research and learning aboard a Virgin Galactic suborbital spaceflight with an all-Boilermaker crew. The flight is expected to represent Purdue faculty, students and alumni by featuring a five-person crew that includes CE alumnus Jason Williamson (BSCE 1997).

Amareah Bead named to seventh class of Purdue Engineering Fellows

LSCCCE undergrad Amareah Bead has been named to the seventh class of Purdue Engineering Fellows. Thanks to the generosity of alumnus Robert H. Buckman (BSChE '59) and his wife, Joyce A. Mollerup, each fellow receives $25,000 after graduation to freely pursue their aspirations and goals.

Kendahl Hejl recognized with Outstanding SURF Mentor Award

Ph.D. student Kendahl Hejl has been recognized as an outstanding mentor for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program. The program, founded in 2003, was designed to enhance classroom learning, involve undergraduates in real problem solving, and spark interest for research careers in science and engineering.
