Chris Burke receives ASCE President's Medal

Purdue Civil Engineering alumnus Chris Burke (BSCE '77, MSCE '79, PhD '83, HDR 2010) has received the 2025 President's Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was presented with the medal during the 2025 ASCE Convention held in Seattle, Washington.
The ASCE President's Medal was established to honor engineers who have made significant accomplishments and contributions in support of ASCE, their field or the public. No more than two recipients are selected each year.
Dr. Christopher B. Burke is the CEO of Rosemont-based Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL), a consulting engineering and surveying firm that he founded in 1986. CBBEL serves as the Consulting Engineer for numerous municipalities and is involved with civil, transportation, drainage, mechanical, environmental and water resources engineering and construction observation for an array of private, municipal, county, state and federal agencies. Under his leadership, Dr. Burke grew the firm from a one-person office to $100 million in annual revenue.
Outside of his work at CBBEL, Dr. Burke has helped guide and grow the engineering field, chairing all the preeminent professional societies in Illinois, including the Illinois section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies – IL and the Western Society of Engineers. For the last 20 years, Dr. Burke has served as a professor of practice at the University of Illinois Chicago, teaching water resources classes.
