CLASS OF 2012

I got a Masters (2014) in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue and a Ph.D. in Biology (2021) from the University of Kentucky. I currently work as a Bioinformatician at the University of Kentucky.

My interest in tissue engineering led me down a path to study how some animals are able to regenerate damaged tissue after injury for my Ph.D., and the coding skills I gained in undergrad also allowed me to more easily utilize next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics tools that many my peers who were biology majors weren't as comfortable with.

I had a lot of positive experiences with classes and professors, but the most significant impact on my personal and professional life from BME was my classmates. I am still in touch with many of them. We've taken many different career paths (academia, medicine, consulting, regulatory, government, etc.), and talking to everyone and hearing unique perspectives has been exciting and insightful.

I've always pursued what intellectually stimulated me instead of following a predetermined path. I went from engineering to biology to bioinformatics and am currently working towards shifting my focus to data analytics, machine learning and AI applications in multiple fields (sports, finance, medicine, etc.). With that, don't be afraid of change or failure. Everyone changes and fails at some point.

Most of my post-graduation involvement with Purdue has been through sports; my friends and I try to get together for a few yearly football and basketball games. I currently have family that both attend and work at Purdue, and I live in Chicago so that I can make it back to campus a reasonable amount.
