Carl Russell

CLASS OF 2023

I am attending the Indiana University / Purdue University Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD). My research is in injectable granular hydrogels and pediatric medical devices.

The Weldon School gave me the fundamental skill sets and trained my mind to engage in problems that I see in my graduate studies and in the clinic.

BME 256 piqued my interest in the intersection of medical students and biomedical engineering applications. It gave me the interest to pursue both in my graduate studies. I enjoyed learning physiology while discovering areas where problems could be addressed.

Never be afraid to ask questions, for advice, or for opportunities in areas you are interested in. Rejection is less regrettable than an unopened door.

I am a Graduate Advisor in Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society. I will also pursue a Purdue BME Ph.D. in the Medical Scientist Training Program.
