Nicklaus Iavagnilio | All-American Marching Band

About Nicklaus Iavagnilio

Nicklaus Iavagnilio is a junior in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and plans to attend graduate school after graduating. He is involved in SURF, Purdue Bands and Orchestras, including the All-American Marching Band (AAMB), and Kappa Kappa Psi. He has been playing the trumpet for 10 years.

What's it like being in the AAMB?

Being a member of the AAMB has been one of the greatest experiences of my college career. Not only have I made friendships which I will cherish and hold close for the rest of my life, but I have learned so much about myself as a musician and as a leader. Through this organization, I have been able to go on countless trips, explore my passions for music while pursuing a non-music degree, and get to support my university through athletic pep bands and other opportunities.

How did you prepare to march with the AAMB in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland in 2018?

Since most members of the band have not marched in the last 2 -3 months, it takes us a while to get back into the groove of the marching technique that we utilize in parades. If you haven’t marched in a while, your legs can get pretty sore from marching again, so lots of stretching and working on marching fundamentals in your free time are always good additions.
