Mac Printing: ECN PaperCut Printers (Ventura or later)
*New August 2025* This should work for "most".
If you use a Purdue IT-managed Mac (on JAMPF) and need to add a printer:
Look at the icons across the top right of your Mac and you should see an icon that looks like a printer. Click on it, and choose the option "View my Printers". This will open up "PaperCut Print Deploy Client". Click on "Add printers" on the left and then in the search box search for (as an example) me_2187. Click on the "Install" option for the printer you want and this will add the printer to your Mac. The next document you need to print should show that printer as an option.
This is for Macs running MacOS Ventura or later. Please see this article for earlier versions.
Downloading Drivers
Some printers may require a driver download.
- HP
- The Generic Driver built-in to the Mac should work for most people.
- If specific printer features are needed, see: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06164609
- Toshiba
- Most Toshiba printers use the same driver: https://business.toshiba.com/downloads/KB/f1Ulds/19699/e-BRIDGE_Global_Print_Driver.zip
- RICOH
Adding a Printer
- Click on the Apple icon > System Settings.
- Open Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...
- Right-click the top toolbar > Customize Toolbar...
- Click and drag the Advanced button to the top of the toolbar.
- Click Done and navigate to the new Advanced menu. This may take a couple seconds to load.
- Select Windows printer via spoolss from the Type dropdown.
- Enter the URL provided by an ECN staff member.
- The URL must end with ?encryption=no for newer versions of MacOS (Sonoma & up)
- Under Use, choose the following depending on the printer manufacturer:
- HP: Generic PostScript Printer
- Toshiba: Select Software > TOSHIBA e-BRIDGE Global Print
- The final page should look similar to this:
First Print / Authentication
The first print will ask you to authenticate. When prompted, enter the following:
- boilerad\username
- Career account password
Check the Remember box to save your password for future prints.
Your document should print after pressing OK. If it did not print, see the troubleshooting section.
Troubleshooting
The print queue will usually show an error if a document does not print.
Hold for Authentication
Hold for Authentication typically means an issue with the username or password. So see the account being used:
- Open Keychain Access (Applications > Utilities)
- In the search bar, type "ecnprint". This will list any accounts saved used for printing.
- At this point, there are two options:
- Check related entries (see below)
- Right-click > Delete any related entries, re-add the printer
Checking Saved Credentials
- Double-click the entry with the printer name or print server
- The Account should be your username with a boilerad\ prefix.
- boilerad\username
- Checking Show password will show the password being used. You may need to authenticate with your Mac password to view it.
- You can modify the password if it is incorrect.
- Press Save Changes to save.
